INDUSTRY VO STATISTICS:
Two industry publications, HEARING REVIEW (1995 - 2001) and HEARING JOURNAL, (1996-1997) have provided, independently, survey findings for a sampled population of Audiologists and HISs. Neither HR nor HJ reported VO usage/ownership in their 1998 survey issues. One item common to each survey, with differences in wording ["..use..." in HR; "...found in offices." in HJ] concerned VIDEO OTOSCOPY.
In the reports of both journals, Video Otoscopes appear to be equally prevalent (HR) and widely used (HJ) in the offices of both Dispensing Audiologists and Hearing Instrument Specialists. In both groups, ownership seems to exceed usage. In 2001 [HR], VO ownership by Hearing Instrument Specialists exceeds that of Audiologist by 69% (HIS) vs. 42% (Aud).
